The Board of Directors of the Mario Savio Memorial Lecture & Young Activist Award invites you to nominate a candidate for the 15th annual Young Activist Award. The award this year carries a cash prize of $6,000, divided equally between the prize-winner and his or her organization.

Inner City Struggle seeks United Students Site Organizer

InnerCity Struggle (ICS), is a social justice, community-building, and membership-driven organization based in the Eastside of Los Angeles. ICS works with youth and families to promote safe, healthy, and non-violent communities. Through campus-based clubs called United Students (US), we organize and engage high school youth and provide leadership development, cultural education, and academic services to empower young people to develop into agents for systemic social change. The purpose of US is to build student power to organize toward educational justice and create campaigns to challenge existing social and economic inequities in the current educational system.

National Voter Registration Day

The Bus Federation Civic Fund is an innovative network of homegrown organizations that mobilize huge numbers of volunteers and develop next generation leaders to create a more just and responsive democracy. Huge fans of combining new attention-grabbing and fun tactics with tried-and-tested grassroots models, the Bus reaches hundreds of thousands of voters every election year with our unique approach.

Election year excitement can help nonprofits empower their community, but many wonder how they can get in on it without taking on a lot of extra work or taking sides.

In 2008, 10 million Americans told the US Census that they did not vote because they did not know how to register or they missed their state’s voter registration deadline. In 2012, we want to make sure no American is left out.

The largest gaps in voter registration are in low income communities and communities of color.

We need people talking face-to face-with their community about how to make their voice heard and vote.

Join nonprofits across the Nation in registering and reminding our communities to vote through these single-day events.

National Voter Registration Day

On September 25, 2012, volunteers, celebrities, and organizations from all over the country will “hit the streets” for National Voter Registration Day. This single day of coordinated volunteer, technology and media efforts will create widespread awareness of voter registration opportunities--allowing us to reach tens of thousands of voters or more who we could not reach otherwise.

Trick or Vote

Studies have shown the best way to motivate someone to vote is through face-to-face contact. The best way to get that contact is on their doorstep. Fortunately, there’s one day a year where most people will answer their door for anyone -- Halloween! When does Halloween happen to fall? Right before elections. So this Halloween we're sending thousands of costumed volunteers door-to-door reminding their neighbors to vote. You might be too old to trick or treat, but you’re never too old to Trick or Vote!

FCYO partners make the Time100 List

On April 18, Time Magazine released its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and leaders from two of FCYO’s partner organizations are on the list!

Dulce Matuz is head of the Arizona Dream Act Coalition. Last year, Dulce sharpened her organizing skills by interning in the Dream Summer program, a program that FCYO also participated in as host organization. Ai-jen Poo is the Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Co-director of the Caring Across Generations campaign. Breakfast in the Classroom

Following two years of organizing, mass education awareness and collaborative engagement by advocates for increased student access to the District’s Breakfast Program, LAUSD School Board President Monica Garcia introduced a Resolution to expand the Breakfast in the Classroomprogram to hundreds of schools throughout the District, with future plans to go district-wide. On April 17th, 2012, the School Board passed the Resolution, titled "Breakfast in the Classroom for Student Success," with full consent.

As an emerging community based organization, Excel Bridgeport exists solely to bring about the district-wide school change necessary to dramatically alter the life trajectory of Bridgeport's students. We believe that students, who directly experience the achievement gap daily, are an integral part of this movement for change. Youth, armed with knowledge of current and important issues, will be able to use the advocacy skills they have developed during the Excel Bridgeport Youth Advocacy and Leadership Program to actually influence change that matters to them at the local and state level.

The Community Organizing Residency (COR), a six-month paid residency, recruits and trains organizers from different faith backgrounds through partnerships with labor, congregation-based and community organizing groups in New York City, Chicago, the Twin Cities, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Seeking to develop organizers and strengthen organizing groups, Islamic, Christian, and Jewish organizations created the Community Organizing Residency.
